How To Identify The Recipe For A Helpful Mental State


Write down what ingredients create the recipe of your emotional state

When I talk about recipes I’m not talking about baking a cake

And when I talk about ingredients I’m not talking about eggs and butter

But it is a good example

If you want to bake a cake you need certain ingredients

And you need to mix those ingredients in a certain order, at a certain time and in certain volumes

If you use different ingredients in a different order and at different volumes you produce something wildly different

If you hope to bake a lovely cake and you replace the flour, eggs and butter with chicken, rice and broccoli

You’re not going to be making a very nice cake!

Emotional states are exactly the same

Every state has a recipe

And during uncertain times it’s more important than ever to positively control your emotional state

For example

Depression for me has a certain recipe that’s made up of certain ingredients

My recipe for depression is:

  • Sleeping in late
  • Being inactive / Not exercising
  • Eating junk food
  • Not drinking enough water
  • Not talking to loved ones
  • Too much TV
  • Sleeping in the daytime
  • Not being hygienic
  • Too much News
  • Having a messy home

It would be easy for me to do this right now

However, I know what ingredients make up my recipe for depression. So I completely avoid them.

I ask myself: How do I want to feel?

I want to feel Joy

Joy for me has a certain recipe that’s made up of certain ingredients

My recipe for joy is:

  • Sunrises / Early Mornings
  • Healthy food
  • Green Juice
  • Exercise
  • Meditation
  • Laughter
  • Sunshine
  • Self-development
  • Connecting with loved ones

Everyone’s recipes will be totally different

But one thing is for certain.

We all have recipes for emotional states.

I ask you to please figure out what yours are

Sometimes you may feel yourself experiencing an emotional state that you don’t want.

Some notable examples:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Sadness
  • Loneliness
  • Worry
  • Fear

Or you notice a loved one slipping down that slope

PLEASE change your recipe and help them change theirs

Let’s protect ourselves and each other from nasty recipes and the unwanted emotional states that they create
