General Questions

What is the best way for students who don’t have a paid zoom account to record their Coaching Observation?

Students without a paid Zoom account can still record their Coaching Observation using Zoom’s free plan, but only through local recording. This means that the recording will be saved directly to their computer.

To record, simply start a meeting as the host, click the “Record” button, and choose “Record on this Computer.” After the meeting ends, Zoom will convert the recording and save it to your local drive. Be sure to have enough storage space on your device to save the file.

To enable or disable computer recording for your personal use:

  • Log in to the Zoom web portal.
  • Click on Settings in the navigation menu.
  • Navigate to the Recording tab.
  • Use the toggle next to Record to computer files to enable or disable this feature.
  • If prompted by a verification dialog, click Turn On to confirm the change.

Keep in mind that Zoom’s free plan limits group meetings (three or more participants) to 40 minutes. If the observation requires more time, you can end the meeting and restart it for another 40 minutes. For one-on-one meetings, there is no time limit, so you can record without any restrictions.

Once the video is ready, feel free to upload it to Google Drive. For more information on how to upload videos to Google Drive, please refer to .
