But what is ‘peak state’? You might ask…

All of your short-term decisions, actions and thoughts are determined by your current state of mind.

But what influences your state of mind?

The answer is many things!

Here are 5 ways that you can use to instantly get into a peak state and maximise your results.

Many of them involve your body because when you change the way you move, you change the way you feel.

1. Breathing

Your breath has an immense influence on your health, energy and mental state of mind.

By using only your breath, you can influence your immune system, your creativity and your energy levels.

Your breath can also help you get into a peak state of mind where you feel energized and motivated.

By breathing deeply through the belly, you inhale a lot more oxygen than you normally do when you breathe.

More oxygen equals more energy.

And when you have more energy, you’re less likely to fall into an unhelpful state of mind.

Breathwork is powerful.

Wim Hof has a method which you can use to get into a peak state.

For 10–30 seconds, inhale and exhale strongly through your mouth, without any pauses in between the breaths.

It’s important to breathe through your belly instead of through your chest.

Important: you will probably start to feel light-headed, which is completely normal.

Always make sure you do this exercise in a safe environment.

Now notice how you feel.

You might even feel tingling sensations in your body, and you probably feel a bit more lightheaded. But overall, you feel energized.

You’ve flooded your body with oxygen and generated a ton of energy.

And should now feel motivated and energized to go out and maximise your day after doing this breathing exercise.

2. Quick Exercise

Another instant state change hack is having a quick workout.

You don’t have to do a full workout.

Instead, doing a few push-ups, squats, jumping jacks, yoga or kettlebell swings can be enough to get into a peak state.

Because exercise elevates the heart rate and increases blood circulation.

This makes you feel more awake and energized.

Which is exactly what you need to get out of that unhelpful state of mind and into a peak state.

3. Take A Cold Shower

Yes, the thought of doing this initially may not be excellent.

But there are amazing psychological & physiological benefits of cold exposure (and breathwork).

And it really helps you get out of an unhelpful state into a peak state.

It also helps:

  • Improved blood circulation
  • Reduced stress levels
  • Higher level of alertness
  • Increased willpower
  • Stronger immune system
  • Stimulates weight loss

The key is to stay calm, control your breath, breathe deeply and silence your mind.

After 10–15 seconds you’ll start to notice that you can actually handle it and that it’s not as bad as you first thought it would be.

Try to stay for at least 30 seconds under the cold water and notice how awake and energized you feel when you leave the shower.

This instant boost of energy feels amazing, and it’s totally worth the initial struggle.

4. Watch A Motivational Video

Watching a motivational video can be a highly effective state change hack.

Pick a video that makes you think of yourself, your goals and your ambitions

This will spark your motivation to go out and maximise productivity in your day.

5. Review Your Goals

Review your goals continuously

Make sure your goals are at the forefront of your mind.

This helps with motivation and focus, which makes you more productive.

Remind yourself every single day about your reasons why.

Why do you want to achieve your goals?

Your ‘why’ is a much stronger motivator than the goal itself. Your ‘why’ is your reason for setting the goal in the first place.

Ask yourself, ‘how will my life look like when I achieve this goal?’

Think about what it’ll do to your finances, relationships, self-esteem, health your career. Use this ‘pleasure’ as fuel to motivate yourself.

But also think about what your life would look like when you wouldn’t achieve your goal.

How will that impact your finances? Your self-esteem? Your career and your relationships? Use this ‘pain’ as fuel to get out of a lousy state of mind and into a peak state of mind within an instant.

Whenever you feel sluggish, unmotivated and are pulled towards procrastinative behaviour, implement at least 2 of these state change hacks to go from an unhelpful state of mind to a peak state of mind in an instant.

This is incredibly important, as your state of mind determines the quality of your thoughts and actions — and that determines the quality of the results you’ll get.
